- Publius—the pseudonymous voice of Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison—is the author of 85 essays urging the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. These essays appeared several times a week in New York City newspapers between October 1787 and August 1788 and were later assembled in book form as The Federalist.
