Definition
- The collapse of the savings and loan (S&L) industry during the 1980s was a major financial crisis for the United States. This crisis, commonly referred to as the S&L debacle, led to the restructuring of the federal regulatory system governing thrift institutions and the formation of the Resolution Trust Corporation.
