Second Chance Act
Definition
- The Second Chance Act of 2007: Community Safety Through Recidivism Prevention was signed into law in 2008 to respond to the increasing numbers of people leaving prisons and jails. Each year, more than 700,000 people are released from prisons, and another 9 million leave jails, many more than once. [Source: Encyclopedia of Community Corrections; Second Chance Act]
