Small Media Against Big Oil
Definition
- International and Nigerian-based protests against oil drilling in the Niger Delta region provide one of the earliest examples of global political mobilization in cyberspace. The petroleum industry in Nigeria is the main source of the nation's gross domestic product (GDP), and it has been enmeshed in political and economic conflict since the discovery of oil in the late 1950s.
