- The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) was created in 1980 to further the development of healthcare epidemiology through research and education. Goals of the society are to prevent and manage infections in patients and healthcare workers; enhance the quality of healthcare; and transform research data into policies that further healthcare initiatives.
