Submerged Lands Act  

Definition

  • The Submerged Lands Act of 1953 (43 U.S.C. §§1301–1315 (2002)) returned control of lands along the coastal areas, including the Gulf of Mexico, back to the states to which these are adjacent. This legislation reduced federal control of the lands that were more than three miles off the coast of the particular states.
