Concept information
Preferred term
abandonment or desertion
Definition
- Spousal abandonment or desertion occurs when one partner leaves the relationship but does not inform the other of this choice. The spouse left behind becomes aware of the desertion as a result of the partner's absence rather than a discussion about ending the relationship.
