Definition
- Anomia is a noun that comes from the Greek a (negative prefix) and nomos (law), meaning absence of norms. The original meaning of anomia in the frame of the classical Greek polity defined a condition of being against or outside the law or a situation where current laws were not applied, resulting in a state of illegitimacy or lawlessness.
