Concept information
Preferred term
arrest clearance
Definition
- the official removal by police of an active case following the arrest of a suspect. Because arrest clearances are a measure of police effectiveness, there is an incentive to clear arrests by any means, including through admission by offenders who may have had nothing to do with the crime in question.
