- Social networking of artist communities can be traced from the Middle Ages all the way to the digital era. Artists' social networking activities can be examined in a variety of contexts, including the guild system, artist workshops and training practices, stylistic schools, and social networking sites that have been specifically created to foster artist communities in a virtual context.
