- Autoerotic asphyxia (AEA) is the practice of preventing oxygen uptake to arouse sexual desire. Medical professionals are likely to refer to AEA as the inducement of cerebral anoxia—a lack of oxygen in the brain—while attempting to achieve orgasm.
