Concept information
Preferred term
bilingualism stages
Definition
- Bilingualism is not an absolute condition, especially at the societal level. In the same way that saying a person is bilingual does little to describe actual language ability, labeling a community as bilingual overlooks the diversity of experiences within bilingual and diglossic societies.
