- Biohazards are biological agents—including pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi—that infect humans and are spread through a variety of transmission methods. These pathogens cause local and global outbreaks of a variety of diseases that impact billions of people annually, resulting in widespread death, illness, and economic losses.
