- Several noninvasive techniques are available today to map the structure and function of the human brain during development; the most frequently used ones are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalography (EEG), and magnetoencephalography (MEG) (Paus, 2003; Toga & Mazziotta, 2002). Magnetic Resonance Imaging Magnetic resonance imaging is the only technique that allows the researcher to measure both structure and function of the brain.
