Definition
- Cocooning is a term used in the United States to describe a retreat to the seclusion, safety, and comfort of home—the private sphere—away from the demands and risks of life outside in the public sphere or wider community. The retreat can be occasioned by a need for privacy and a desire to devote more attention to family and other intimate relationships.
