Definition
- Learning from existing communications technologies, such as e-mail discussion groups and instant messaging, some researchers have attempted to combine the most useful features of such systems with theories of community and interaction. This new research includes expansions of e-mail (and the notion of the e-mail habitat), developments of virtual social spaces, and spaces that are developed to merge closely with the real world.
