- Domestic violence refers to the abuses such as name-calling, beating, stalking, rape, and even murder that occur between married or unmarried couples who currently live or previously have lived together. The Bureau of Justice Statistics gathers information on intimate partner violence, but the bureau acknowledges the difficulties in tracking such information.
