  • Culture-based conversational constraints theory, developed by Min-Sun Kim and her colleagues, explains why people from different cultures say what they say. In contrast with mostly descriptive research on cross-cultural strategy choices, the major goal of this research program has been to understand, from a goals perspective, why a particular conversational strategy is chosen cross-culturally.
