Definition
- Public schools in the United States employ more than 6.7 million people. Nearly 3.5 million are teachers, and more than 3.2 million are school administrators, support staff, and other professionals, who manage schools, transport and feed children, provide for the physical and behavioral health needs of children, and ensure that the buildings and grounds where students spend their days are safe and well maintained.
