coverage of immigration
Definition
- As a nation of immigrants, the United States' relation to the many waves of newcomers is complex, and the reaction that greets the recent arrivals varies. The role of journalism as it relates to immigration is multifaceted: immigrant news outlets help orient the newcomers; mainstream news operations seek to explain to the larger society the makeup of the immigrant community, the underlying forces that pushed those newcomers out of their country, and those that drew them here.
