Definition
- Crossing over is the reciprocal exchange of segments of DNA between chromatids of homologous chromosomes. Sometimes referred to as recombination, crossing over is a characteristic of prophase in the first meiotic division. [Source: Encyclopedia of Global Health; Crossing Over]
