Definition
- Anthropologist John Ogbu hypothesized that the poor academic achievement of African Americans primarily resulted from their opposition to White mainstream culture and the fear of acting White. Ogbu distinguished two types of racial minorities: immigrant or voluntary and caste-like or involuntary.
