curanderismo
Definition
- Curanderismo is a Mexican American folk healing tradition that represents a fusion of Judeo-Christian religious beliefs, symbols, and rituals, along with Native American and indigenous herbal knowledge and health practices. The curandero or curandera is believed to have supernatural power or access to supernatural power; his or her abilities are perceived as el don (a gift) from God.
