Concept information
Preferred term
early immigrants and English language learning
Definition
- Among the arguments made by opponents of bilingual education is this: previous generations of immigrants did not have bilingual education to help them learn English and they had little trouble doing so. If bilingual education was not needed before, the argument suggests, it is likely that modern-day immigrants can get along without it as well.
