Concept information
Preferred term
embodiment
Definition
- A sociological term that draws attention to the lived experience of the body as opposed to the mechanistic and biologistic understanding in biomedicine. It is an attempt to overcome the mind-body dualism of our Cartesian heritage, which privileged the rational mind over the emotional body (body; body politics; Cartesian; mind-body dualism; mind-body relationship).
