emergency doctrine
Definition
- The emergency doctrine permits police to enter premises and render aid without search warrants supported by probable cause when responding to emergency situations. The doctrine is similar to, but more inclusive than, the principles involved when police are pursuing fleeing felons or are faced with other exigent circumstances.
