Preferred term

exploitation by scams

Definition

  • A scam is a fraud involving trickery to obtain a financial or other benefit. The term scam can be used broadly to refer to most types of fraud, but it usually implies a deliberate and planned hoax, often one that can be repeated on different victims and involves a false offer or “bait.” Scams appear to be at least as old as recorded history.
