Definition
- Fatty liver disease (FLD) results from an accumulation of lipids within liver cells and ranges from fatty liver alone (steatosis) to fatty liver associated with inflammation (steatohepatitis). FLD may be related to alcohol (generally above 10 grams per day) or not (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [NAFLD]). [Source: Encyclopedia of Obesity; Fatty Liver]
