Definition
- Although loyalty to a corporation often used to pay off in a lifetime guarantee of employment, downsizing and restructuring during the 1980s and 1990s changed the way that many employers and workers viewed organizational commitment and career development. The changing workplace has seen an emergence of workers who consider themselves free agents. [Source: Sociology of Work: An Encyclopedia; Free Agents]
