Concept information
Preferred term
gender and femininity: motherhood
Definition
- While feminists have long championed women's professional ambitions and sexual desires, critics contend that mainstream media often depict moral-ethical conflicts between work, sex, and mothering. The result has been to create media imagery and narratives that promote a nostalgic return to, and sentimentalizing of, the nurturing qualities of women.
