Definition
- The population of the world is aging, a result of the fact that most societies have undergone or are experiencing fertility declines and falls in mortality. The median age of people in the world was 23.6 years in 1950, increased to 26.5 years in 2000, and is projected to reach 36.2 years in 2050. [Source: Encyclopedia of Health & Aging; Global Aging]
