gun ownership
Definition
- From the beginning of European settlement of North America, personal gun ownership has played an important, and often contentious, role in American society in times of war and peace alike. Privately owned guns made their way into most major armed conflicts fought until the end of the 19th century, both helping and hindering military efforts.
