- HEPATITIS B VIRUS (HBV) infection is a major public health crisis globally. Approximately one-third of the world's population is exposed to HBV at some time in their lives; 300 million individuals worldwide are carriers of HBV; and over 1 million people die annually from complications due to liver failure and liver cancer.
