- Domestic violence refers to abusive activities that occur between married or unmarried couples who currently live or previously have lived together. Harmful activities include verbal abuse such as name-calling, emotional manipulation such as withholding affection or victim blaming, physical abuse such as hitting or beating, and sexual abuse such as rape.
