Definition
- As of 2012, laws allow law enforcement officers to conduct warrantless inventory searches of private property with the intent of accounting for and maintaining the articles, contents, and possessions contained within or accompanying a searched vehicle or person. The intent of an inventory search is to secure articles, contents, and possessions an individual may have on her person or within a vehicle to account for all items.
