Definition
- Many of the conflicts over American food issues come down to questions of safety, but even when there is agreement over the existence of a danger, there can be conflict over its solution. Concerns about potential Salmonella contamination, for instance, are remedied in part by requiring that chicken be cooked to a temperature sufficient to kill contaminants (against the tendency to serve chicken still pink in many of the cultures of American ancestors) and warnings that accompany the serving of uncooked or undercooked eggs.
