Definition
- A few decades ago, manufacturing represented 7 percent of all businesses and 22 percent of all jobs in the United States. Today, because of the high growth in the service sector's portion of the overall economy, a little more than 3 percent of firms and just under 15 percent of employees are engaged in manufacturing.
