- Television Series M*A*S*H, the television series set during the Korean War, debuted on September 17, 1972, to underwhelming ratings. The program was based on the groundbreaking 1970 film adaptation of the novel M*A*S*H, which was written by a veteran Korean War surgeon using the pseudonym Richard Hooker.
