manufacturing
Definition
- Manufacturing—the production of physical goods—is the definitional backbone of industrial society. Whereas an agricultural society relies on growing food or cash crops and a postindustrial society is characterized by the provision of services, an industrial society is defined by the design and putting together of tangible human-made objects, a pursuit that occupies a large portion of its workers.
