- Maternal phenylketonuria (MPKU) is an iatrogenic aspect of the dietary treatment of phenylketonuria (PKU). PKU is an autosomal-recessive inborn error of metabolism in which a person cannot metabolize phenylalanine (Phe) into tyrosine and its constituent components.
