- Psychological/emotional abuse refers to nonphysical aggression or maltreatment that causes psychological distress and is perpetrated against an intimate partner. Although psychological/emotional abuse may occur in a variety of close relationships (e.g., parent-to-child), this entry is limited to measurement of abuse that is perpetrated against an intimate partner.
