Definition
- The US Office of Technology Assessment defines medical technologies as ‘the drugs, devices, and medical and surgical procedures used in medical care and the organization and supportive systems within which such care is provided’. The role of the office is to assess the economic value and safety of medical technologies. In the UK the National Institute of Clinical Evidence provides the same role.
