- Melanocortins are a group of pituitary peptide hormones including adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) and the alpha-, beta-, and gamma-melanocyte-stimulating hormones. Five melanocortin receptors (MC1 through MC5) have different physiological functions. [Source: Encyclopedia of Obesity; Melanocortins]
