Definition
- Missiles are projectile weapons, usually with an explosive charge, that are both guided and self-propelled (smart bombs, which serve a very similar purpose, lack a propulsion system). Militaries use missiles in five basic roles, according to their launch platform and their target. [Source: Encyclopedia of Crisis Management; Missiles]
