Definition
- A sleep disorder in which a person slips abruptly from an active, often emotional, waking state into several minutes of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Narcolepsy is associated with cataplexy, in which a sudden loss of muscle control results in an individual suddenly collapsing.
