Definition
- Newborn babies in need of intensive medical care are treated in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), where trained doctors and nurses have access to specialized, advanced technology. NICUs are usually directed by a small number of neurologists and staffed by resident physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physician assistants, and medical social workers.
