Preferred term
newsroom searches in the United States
Definition
- Law enforcement or other government officials rarely try to search newsrooms for documents, sources, or other evidence they hope to connect with a crime—but this is not because they would not want to do more. Police and other government officials are restrained by the Privacy and Protection Act of 1980 (PPA), which sets out restrictions in federal law on such searches.
