obesity and the immune system
Definition
- Obesity, the state of having excess body fat relative to lean body mass, alters the immune system of the individual who suffers from this condition. Obesity leads to the chronic active stimulation of the immune system from within the adipose or fat tissue, in the lymphoid tissue (where adipose tissue and lymph nodes sit in proximity to one another), and through distant messaging systems.
