Definition
- A global map shows history’s 25 worst oil spill accidents, ranging from the Lakeview Gusher in 1910 to the Deepwater Horizon explosion in 2010. The map categorizes the incidents into the following types: shore-based infrastructure failure, including leaks from wells and pipelines; fires and explosions on offshore platforms; leaks and spills from offshore platforms and collisions between ships and platforms; tanker collisions with other ships; and tanker problems, such as ships breaking apart, leaks, fires, running aground, or sinking.
