Definition
- Parliament's development as the supreme legislative body of the United Kingdom was a lengthy process originating with the Magna Carta in 1215. Parliament's evolution into a recognizably modern incarnation at the start of the seventeenth century resulted in a century of struggles between parliamentarians and monarchists that saw the establishment of Parliament as the supreme governing body of Britain.
